There is nothing worse for a prop builder than the dreaded Friday afternoon call. You would think in the call display universe nobody in their right mind would answer. Yet JP at Charron still takes my calls after all these years. One can only imagine his eyes rolling when my number comes up on his screen, especially on Friday afternoon. What level of hell will Dean impose to wreck yet another weekend?

Through the years, JP and the team actually make me look like I know what I’m doing as a Props Master, when clearly nothing could be further from the truth. One memorable prop build that required a lot of time and engineering from one of my forgettable shows suddenly had a week cut off the build time. In the end their design saved the show many thousands in CGI costs as the effect was done in real time. It also got me a lot of pats on the back, when clearly I had no clue what I was doing. As I always say, my only talent is hiring very talented people, giving them money, and letting them do their craft—mostly with impossible deadlines. Charron Custom Props & FX is my go-to place. They are amazing to work with. They have also allowed me to keep fooling people as to how talented I really am.
